Dickinson Dining Services Sustainability Internship

During the Fall of 2013 and Spring of 2015 I worked with Dining Services to improve the sustainability of its operations, especially their food purchases. I worked to strengthen relationships with local farmers and producers, in addition to drafting purchasing priority guidelines to improve sustainability. 

 

Rooting for Health
During the summmer of 2015 I served as the Boston, MA area Farmers' Market Intern for Rooting for Health. In this role I was responsible for developing outreach material, including cooking demonstrations and recipes highlighting seasonal produce available at Boston area farmers' markets. I was also responsible for social media outreach and education about simple and cost-friendly ways of incorporating produce into a wide variety of diets.
Liberty Prairie Foundation
During the summer of 2014 I interned with the Liberty Prairie Foundation in Grayslake, Illinois, an organization that focuses on sustainable food systems and local econoimes. Among many things, I was in charge of co-organizing and leading a subsidized farm stand at a local community center, working with a youth farm education program, managing a seedling donation program, writing updates for the website and newsletter, and maintining social media accounts. 
 
I created a cookbook for the youth farm program, make web maps of different locations associated with the organization, and wrote articles for the monthly newsletter.
